Freelance Excellence: I can’t think of anything I’d rather be recognized for!
What an honor! I’ve been named a finalist in the Freelance Excellence category of the Women in Content Marketing Awards. I’ve spent most of my career as a freelancer (AKA independent writer, AKA solopreneur, AKA small business owner), and I’m a firm believer that you can do great things as an independent. I take pride in my professionalism and strive for excellence in my writing and the way I interact with clients and colleagues. My nomination for the award featured my work with non-profits, associations, healthcare organizations, and government agencies to hone their messages and promote their work to increase access to quality care for underrepresented and underserved populations.

ASJA celebrates 75 years of helping freelance writers
The American Society of Journalists and Authors got its start in 1948 when a group of independent nonfiction writers got together to talk about how they could learn from and support each other as they navigated their careers in a changing publishing landscape. Seventy five years later, journalism and publishing just keep changing. And ASJA is still here to support freelance writers. As president of ASJA, I gave an update on the organization and celebrate 75-years of writers helping writers in this blog post on ASJA.org.

ASJA’s role in creating a stronger, more diverse freelance community
For ASJA to meet its mission to be the voice and career resource for independent, entrepreneurial, professional nonfiction writers, its membership should reflect the demographics of our profession. In my first blog post as president of ASJA, I wrote about what ASJA is doing to support and encourage freelance writers from historically marginalized groups.
