ASJA plans two conferences for freelance writers

It’s the freelance writers’ event of the season: the annual ASJA conference. That is, it was until a pandemic interrupted a decades-long streak of stellar gatherings in New York City. ASJA quickly pivoted to virtual and found a new audience and new advantages for online gatherings. But the longing to gather in-person persists. In this blog post, I announce two upcoming ASJA conferences—one in NYC and one from anywhere.

ASJA celebrates 75 years of helping freelance writers

The American Society of Journalists and Authors got its start in 1948 when a group of independent nonfiction writers got together to talk about how they could learn from and support each other as they navigated their careers in a changing publishing landscape. Seventy five years later, journalism and publishing just keep changing. And ASJA is still here to support freelance writers. As president of ASJA, I gave an update on the organization and celebrate 75-years of writers helping writers in this blog post on ASJA.org.

For ASJA to meet its mission to be the voice and career resource for independent, entrepreneurial, professional nonfiction writers, its membership should reflect the demographics of our profession.
